The Comfy Home

Where the comfort of home and quality of daycare meet

Here is a look into our day...

Infants

I only accept one infant a time in order to provide the best care possible.  I believe it is an important part of an infant's development to be held, talked to, and included in the daily activities of the other children.  I provide tummy time to promote neck and back strength, and talk to babies regularly to promote positive social development.  I feel that an infant's cry deserves a response.  I do not let babies sit and cry unattended.  Holding babies is one of the best parts of my day!  Below are pictures of me wearing a Moby wrap.  The are many different ways to wrap a baby in the Moby.  They all help children feel close to their caregiver and hear a comforting heartbeat.  With your permission I will gladly keep your newborn baby close to me in the Moby.

If you are a breastfeeding mom I will gladly treat the milk you send as "liquid gold".  I understand the importance of not wasting a drop.  You are welcome to store labeled bags of milk in my freezer so your baby will always have an extra supply in case your day is unexpectedly long.  Please feel welcome to nurse your baby when you drop off or pick up your child.  If you need a private place to pump I can provide that as well.

No matter if you are formula feeding or breastfeeding you will receive a sheet at the end of every day detailing the amount of milk and diaper changes your child experienced.

Toddlers and Preschoolers

Each day as part of our curriculum toddlers and preschoolers participate in educational activities together.  I teach them through games, songs, art, manipulatives, and play.  I provide cots with linens for nap time, sippy cups, meals, and toys.  I ask parents to bring a change of clothes and any blankets or stuffed animals the child sleeps with for naps.

After School Care

I accept siblings of the children I keep full time for after school care.  For an additional fee I can provide tutoring in reading, writing, and math.  Because I have little ones during the day it is the parent's responsibility to bring the child to me after school.  If your child attends Carl A. Furr Elementary School he/she may ride the bus to my house.  After school, children enjoy a snack, complete their homework, and spend the afternoon playing indoors and/or outdoors.  We don't watch TV.  Children enjoy good, old-fashioned play!

Outline of our curriculum

We have a curriculum that is complete after two years.  Since I keep the same children from 0-5 years old I have a two year curriculum to keep children from focusing on the same themes year after year.  What a child learns at three she will see in a whole new light at five.  All children participate in the same themed activities but their learning experiences will be on their own particular level.

June, All About Me: Children will discover all about themselves including what color eyes and hair they have.  We will share about our families and our favorite books, toys, and games.  Children will have the opportunity to experience a variety of art activities to discover which medium they like best.  We will create ourselves out of shapes and draw pictures that label our eyes, ears, and other body parts.  In reading we will focus on recognizing our own first name in print through tracing, writing, and playing games with our names.  Our math focus will be on big and little.  We will practice putting objects in order by size.

July, Summer: During this unit we will explore everything about the Summer season.  We will read books, create pictures, and sing songs about summer weather, clothing, oceans and beaches, and the fourth of July.  In math we will focus on shapes by building, labeling, sorting, and reading about them.  During reading we will focus on the letters S and O.

August, Apples: During our apple theme children will use their five senses to taste, smell, describe, and feel apples.  We will discover that apples come in many colors and sizes, and can be used to make all sorts of delicious foods.  We will focus on the letters A and M.  During reading we will practice finding words that rhyme.  During math time our focus will be counting and establishing a one-to-one correspondence for numbers 1-10.
